SL-4 TAPER SHAPE - RADIUS PREMIUM TUNGSTEN CARBIDE BURR– ¼” shank

SL-4 Taper shape burrs (also called conical ball nose burrs)are great for narrow contours, surface machining and getting at rounded edge and surface processing in small places. Due to the extreme hardness of this tungsten carbide, it can be used on much more demanding jobs than HSS (High-Speed Steel). These carbide burrs are made of tungsten carbide burr die grinder bits and will start to soften at higher temperatures, so carbide is always the best choice for long-term performance.

Double cut or Cross cut carbide burrs tend to be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, soft steel, and also for all non-metal materials such as stone, plastics, hardwood, and ceramic. Double cut burrs will leave a slightly smoother finish than single cut due to producing smaller chips as they cut away the material. Use for medium stock removal, deburring, finishing, and cleaning. A double-cut carbide burr is the most popular cut and will see you through most applications.

  • Other Materials – Fiberglass, Plastic, Hard Rubber, Wood, Stone
  • Taper Shape burrs are great for narrow workpiece contours and surfaces.

Safety Tips & Techniques:

  • Tool speed will be determined by the material you are using your burr on. If you are experiencing chipping, you are most likely operating at too high of speed for the application. Start with a slower speed and increase as you go along until you achieve the best results
  • Apply light pressure and let the tool do the work. Bearing down on the tool will result in reduced tool life and a dull burr.
  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.
  • Avoid use on electric power drills; the slower speeds can result in chipping of your workpiece.

Olivia ★★★★★

The taper shape makes it much easier to get into tight corners than my old straight bits, and the cut is noticeably smoother on hardened steel. I've already used it on a few projects and it still looks new.

Samuel ★★★★★

I had my doubts about the ¼" shank size, but once I chucked it in the die grinder it tracked perfectly steady on some tough stainless steel. The radius on the tip lets me get into tight corners without digging in, and it's holding its edge longer than any other carbide burr I've tried.

Zoe ★★★★★

The conical ball nose profile on this burr is exactly what I needed for shaping concave curves in my project, and the ¼” shank held rock solid in my collet without any wobble. It cuts smoothly and keeps its edge noticeably longer than the cheaper steel bits I've burned through before.
