ECONOMY TITANIUM COATED STEP DRILL BIT 9/16"-1" (13 STEPS)

Benchmark Abrasives Economy TiN Coated Step Drill Bit 9/16"-1" (13 Steps) are ideal for making burr-free holes in aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal. The Titanium Nitride coated HSS Step Drill Bits are suitable for home light maintenance work and feature a spiral double flute design that provides longer life and better chip removal and a self-centering split point to prevent wobbling. These drill bits are optimized for Portable (or Pillar) drilling machines usage and electric powered rotary drills.

Step Drill Bits are ideal for drilling clean, precise holes in metal up to 1/4" thick. Engineered specifically for thin materials like sheet metal, these bits drill and ream to size in one motion—no need to switch out bits for different diameters. As the bit advances, each step gradually enlarges the hole to the next size. Titanium-coated Step Drill Bits offer enhanced cutting speed, superior durability, and self-centering action that reduces walking on the material. With just one bit, you can create multiple hole sizes efficiently and consistently.

Machines Used On:

  • Portable or Pillar drilling machines and electric powered rotary drills

Application:

  • Ferrous metals like Steel, Iron, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron as well as other materials like plastics, composites, fiberglass and non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper

Safety Tips/techniques:

  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.
  • For best results bring the step bit to the workpiece keeping a 90 degree angle between the cutting surface and the cutting head. Using the tool at steeper angles (for example 45 degrees), could apply excess pressure on the head and snap the shank.

Natalie R. ★★★★★

Used it to punch through a stainless steel pot rack that kept dulling my regular bits, and the 13 steps let me widen the hole without swapping tools mid-job. Cut clean and the TiN coating barely showed wear afterward. For the price, this thing earned its spot in my toolbox.

James R. ★★★★★

The titanium coating on this bit held up well through a few metal panels without any chipping. Each of the 13 steps gave a clean, precise hole, and the 9/16" to 1" range is perfect for electrical work.

Timothy Y. ★★★★★

Really smooth cuts through 16-gauge steel, and the 13-step range from 9/16 to 1 inch gave me exactly the sizes I needed without switching bits. The titanium coating seems to be holding up well after several holes.
