ECONOMY TITANIUM COATED STEP DRILL BIT 1/8"-1/2" (13 STEPS)

Benchmark Abrasives Economy TiN Coated Step Drill Bit 1/8"-1/2" (13 Steps) are ideal for making burr-free holes in aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal. The Titanium Nitride coated HSS Step Drill Bits are suitable for home light maintenance work and feature a spiral double flute design that provides longer life and better chip removal and a self-centering split point to prevent wobbling. These drill bits are optimized for impact driver usage.

Step Drill Bits are ideal for drilling clean, precise holes in metal up to 1/4" thick. Engineered specifically for thin materials like sheet metal, these bits drill and ream to size in one motion—no need to switch out bits for different diameters. As the bit advances, each step gradually enlarges the hole to the next size. Titanium-coated Step Drill Bits offer enhanced cutting speed, superior durability, and self-centering action that reduces walking on the material. With just one bit, you can create multiple hole sizes efficiently and consistently.

  • Shank Diameter – 1/4” quick change ball groove shank

Machines Used On:

  • Impact drivers and electric powered rotary drills

Application:

  • Ferrous metals like Steel, Iron, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron as well as other materials like plastics, composites, fiberglass and non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper

Safety Tips/techniques:

  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.
  • For best results bring the step bit to the workpiece keeping a 90 degree angle between the cutting surface and the cutting head. Using the tool at steeper angles (for example 45 degrees), could apply excess pressure on the head and snap the shank.

Jason ★★★★★

Was a little worried about the price, but the titanium coating held up perfectly drilling through some aluminum conduit. The 13 step sizes from 1/8" to 1/2" let me get exactly the hole I needed without swapping bits.

George ★★★★★

Punched through 16-gauge sheet metal cleanly on the 3/8" step, and the Titanium coating still looks new after a dozen holes. The 13 steps give me plenty of sizes without swapping bits constantly.

Daniel C. ★★★★★

Didn't expect much from an economy bit but it chewed through my sheet metal enclosure project without dulling. The titanium coating seems to help with heat, and the steps give clean holes without a pilot bit swap. For the price it's honestly a steal.
