Product Specification

ECONOMY TITANIUM COATED STEP DRILL BIT 1/4"-1-3/8" (10 STEPS)

Benchmark Abrasives Economy TiN Coated Step Drill Bit 1/4"-1-3/8" (10 Steps) are ideal for making burr-free holes in aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal. The Titanium Nitride coated HSS Step Drill Bits are suitable for home light maintenance work and feature a spiral double flute design that provides longer life and better chip removal and a self-centering split point to prevent wobbling. These drill bits are optimized for Portable (or Pillar) drilling machines usage and electric powered rotary drills.

Step Drill Bits are ideal for drilling clean, precise holes in metal up to 1/4" thick. Engineered specifically for thin materials like sheet metal, these bits drill and ream to size in one motion—no need to switch out bits for different diameters. As the bit advances, each step gradually enlarges the hole to the next size. Titanium-coated Step Drill Bits offer enhanced cutting speed, superior durability, and self-centering action that reduces walking on the material. With just one bit, you can create multiple hole sizes efficiently and consistently.

  • Ferrous metals like Steel, Iron, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron as well as other materials like plastics, composites, fiberglass and non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper

Safety Tips/techniques:

  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.
  • For best results bring the step bit to the workpiece keeping a 90 degree angle between the cutting surface and the cutting head. Using the tool at steeper angles (for example 45 degrees), could apply excess pressure on the head and snap the shank.

Cut through 14-gauge steel like butter, the titanium coating really helps it stay sharp longer than my old uncoated bits. Each step is clearly marked, so I’m not guessing sizes mid-project. A solid buy for the price.

Finally got around to using this on some thin steel and the titanium coating really seemed to help it bite without grabbing. The step sizes are clearly marked, which saved me from guessing as I worked my way up to 1-3/8 inches.

Claire ★★★★★

I've been using this step drill bit for all sorts of sheet metal work, and the 10-step range from 1/4" to 1-3/8" means I rarely need to switch bits. The titanium coating hasn't chipped or worn after a dozen holes, which is impressive for the price. Just make sure you use some cutting oil and it slic
