Product Specification

AMBER & BLACK TITANIUM COATED STEP DRILL BIT 3/16"-7/8" (12 STEPS)

Benchmark Abrasives Amber & Black Titanium Step Drill Bit 3/16"-7/8" (12 Steps) are ideal for making burr-free holes in aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal. The Amber & Black coated HSS M2 Step Drill Bits are suitable for heavy maintenance work and feature a dual color step system for easier viewing, a spiral double flute design that provides longer life and better chip removal and a self-centering split point to prevent wobbling. These drill bits are optimized for impact driver usage.

Step Drill Bits are the go-to solution for drilling clean, precise holes in metal up to 1/4" thick. Designed for thin materials like sheet metal, they drill and ream in one smooth motion = no bit changes required. Each step increases in diameter, allowing you to create multiple hole sizes with a single tool. The Amber & Black Titanium coating isn’t just for looks; it provides a cooler cut for extended bit life and makes each step clearly visible while drilling, so you always know exactly where you are in the process. These bits also feature a self-centering tip that minimizes walking and delivers faster, more controlled drilling.

  • Shank Diameter – 1/4” quick change ball groove shank

Machines Used On:

  • Impact drivers and electric powered rotary drills

Application:

  • Ferrous metals like Steel, Iron, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron as well as other materials like plastics, composites, fiberglass and non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper

Safety Tips/techniques:

  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.
  • For best results bring the step bit to the workpiece keeping a 90 degree angle between the cutting surface and the cutting head. Using the tool at steeper angles (for example 45 degrees), could apply excess pressure on the head and snap the shank.
  • Check out our STEP DRILL BIT TIP SHEET for more tips on how to get the most out of your step bits

Isabella ★★★★★

Went through 3/16 up to 7/8 on a sheet of aluminum without swapping bits once, and the 12 steps made it easy to hit the exact hole size for my grommets. The titanium coating still looks fresh after maybe 40 holes.

Zoe B. ★★★★★

I drilled through a stainless plate and some aluminum sheet with this and the titanium coating really seemed to help it stay sharp. Cutting through without a pilot hole saved me a lot of time.

Isabella M. ★★★★★

The 12 steps mean I didn't have to keep swapping bits while enlarging holes in my project. Titanium coating held up fine after a dozen holes in mild steel, still cutting clean.
