Product Specification

AMBER & BLACK TITANIUM COATED STEP DRILL BIT 3/16"-1/2" (6 STEPS)

Benchmark Abrasives Amber & Black Titanium Coated Step Drill Bit 3/16"-1/2" (6 Steps) are ideal for making burr-free holes in aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal. The Amber & Black coated HSS M2 Step Drill Bits are suitable for heavy maintenance work and feature a dual color step system for easier viewing, a spiral double flute design that provides longer life and better chip removal and a self-centering split point to prevent wobbling. These drill bits are optimized for impact driver usage.

Step Drill Bits are the go-to solution for drilling clean, precise holes in metal up to 1/4" thick. Designed for thin materials like sheet metal, they drill and ream in one smooth motion = no bit changes required. Each step increases in diameter, allowing you to create multiple hole sizes with a single tool. The Amber & Black Titanium coating isn’t just for looks; it provides a cooler cut for extended bit life and makes each step clearly visible while drilling, so you always know exactly where you are in the process. These bits also feature a self-centering tip that minimizes walking and delivers faster, more controlled drilling.

Dimensions

  • Number of steps – 6 (six) steps
  • Hole Sizes – 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16”, 3/8”, 7/16”, 1/2”
  • Shank Diameter – 3 Flats Shank

Machines Used On:

  • Impact drivers and electric powered rotary drills

Application:

  • Ferrous metals like Steel, Iron, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron as well as other materials like plastics, composites, fiberglass and non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper

Safety Tips/techniques:

  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.
  • For best results bring the step bit to the workpiece keeping a 90 degree angle between the cutting surface and the cutting head. Using the tool at steeper angles (for example 45 degrees), could apply excess pressure on the head and snap the shank.

Joseph ★★★★★

The six-step sizing makes it easy to switch between hole diameters without changing bits. drilled clean holes in stainless steel without any chatter or binding.

John G. ★★★★★

Cut through aluminum sheet like butter, and the step sizing from 3/16 to 1/2 inch is perfect for the small conduit work I do. The coating still looks new after drilling a dozen holes.

Amelia L. ★★★★★

The titanium coating held up perfectly through a dozen holes in 1/8" sheet metal, and the step transitions are crisp enough that I didn't need to deburr much afterward. Six sizes in one bit means I've basically retired my old set of separate drills for this range.
