Product Specification

17/32" SILVER & DEMING HSS DRILL BIT

Benchmark Abrasives 17/32" Silver & Deming HSS Drill Bits are ideal for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, manganese, and other tough materials. They are precision ground from one solid piece of heat-treated high speed and have a 135-degree split point to eliminate wobbling.

Silver and Deming drill bits are large size bits with reduced shanks that are ideal for situations where a bit diameter is greater than the capacity of a drill chuck. This Silver and Deming drill bit is also known as a reduced-shank drill bit. The HSS drill bits provide good wear resistance and can be used in general purpose applications on both ferrous and nonferrous materials. Oxide coating of these bits prevents chip building, galling, and welding on the workpiece. Its black-gold surface treatment holds lubricant for smoother, longer drilling. It is ideal for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, manganese, and other tough materials.

Quantity: 1 piece

Dimensions

  • Outer Diameter – 17/32”
  • Overall Length – 6”
  • Shank Diameter – 1/2” with 3 Flats round shank

Machines Used On:

  • Drill press and electric powered rotary drills

Application:

  • Steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, manganese, and other tough materials
  • Wood

Safety Tips/techniques:

  • We suggest using a drill press as opposed to a drill with our silver and demming bits.  A drill can be tricky to ensure straight drilled holes.  When using a handheld drill, invest in a jig to ensure your holes are straight
  • Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection.  Keep all guards in place on your machine.

Robert ★★★★★

Had to drill through some stainless steel brackets and this bit cut through cleanly without wandering. The 17/32" size was exactly what I needed for tapping threads, and the HSS material held up to the heat.

Charlotte D. ★★★★★

Bored out a bunch of 17/32" holes in 3/8" plate steel with my drill press and it cut through clean without wandering. The reduced shank fits my 1/2" chuck so I didn't need an adapter. HSS held its edge through maybe 40 holes and still bites.

Harper L. ★★★★★

The 17/32" size was exactly what I needed for enlarging holes in stainless, which is usually a nightmare with cheap bits. This one held its edge through half a dozen holes without needing a pilot change. The 1/2" shank fits my drill press chuck perfectly.
